4. Where was the World Wide Web invented?
Answer: The World Wide Web (WWW) has revolutionized the computer and communications world like nothing before. The invention of the telegraph, telephone, radio, computer and Internet set the stage for this unprecedented integration of capabilities. Invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1991, the Web has become a medium for collaboration and interaction between individuals and their computers without regard to geographic location.

6. What is the weight of the largest parsnip ever grown?

7. When did Queensland become a state and why is the Tweed River in New South Wales?
In 1851 a public meeting was held to consider Queensland's separation from New South Wales. Queen Victoria gave her approval and signed Letters Patent on June 6 1859 to establish the new colony of Queensland. On the same day an Order-in-Council gave Queensland its own Constitution. Queensland became a self-governing colony with its own Governor, a nominated Legislative Council and an elected Legislative Assembly. June 6 is now celebrated by Queenslanders as the day acknowledging the birth of Queensland. On December 10, Queensland's first Governor, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, officially proclaimed Queensland to be a separate colony from New South Wales.

8. What was the weather like in south-east Queensland on 17 November 1954?
The heavy October rains over the Darling Downs followed by thunderstorm rains in November maintained fairly high levels in the Condamine and Macintyre rivers , particularly during the first half of the month. The peak height at Surat on 1st was the result of heavy run-off from the October rains. This crest moved slowly downstream and peaked at St George on 4th. Heavy 25 to 75mm rains on the southern Downs during the 3rd and 4th renewed the flooding in the Macintyre River which was still carrying considerable run-off from the October rains. The resultant sharp rises on 4th , 5th and 6th gave the third flood for that stream in 5 weeks. A peak at Goondiwindi on 6th resulted in moderate flooding and temporary dislocation of traffic.
Local flooding due to thunderstorms occurred at isolated places throughout Queensland during the month. The following are examples :- Some 30mm at Dayboro on 5th caused a temporary rise in the Pine River . Approximately 100mm in an hour near Surat caused freshes and another peak in the Condamine River on 9th. A severe storm brought 40mm in 15 minutes to Ingham on 10th , flooding shops and business premises. Up to 50mm of rain fell in 90 minutes at Caloundra , flooding a number of houses on 10th. hilarious video we watched in the lecture.

Lecture 3 - Language of Film and stuff from lecture 4 (apparently)

I didn't really pay much attention to this lecture unfortunately, because I knew what he was talking about... having studied film last semester but I'll wrote down what I got from it anyway.

Cine - film words and technology vocabulary

FILM:
Who - character detail
- close-up shots

What - Showing actions
- mid-shots

Where - establishes location
- long shots

When - location and time
- wide and close shots

Why - revealing character and actions
- Big close up

Head room
Talking room
rule of 180

Film - the first full length narrative film was, The Ned Kelly movie made in Australia.

Television and movies - royalties declined... number of people going to theaters to watch movies also declined.

The internet - Youtube, any body can make short movies now...

Personal Experience with NCT

Communication technology has been apart of mine and my friends and my family's lives since I can really remember - clearly I don't remember all that much beforehand. Growing up as technology advancing was and always is very exciting. We are always inclined to say "I WANT THAT" cause it's new and exciting... I know I do it a lot! These devices seem to be getting smaller but faster and more efficient. It's convenient having them, however I think we have become too reliant on these machines.

My first email account was made when I was 7 years old, although I tell people it was made when I was 8. cause I did have another before my current one. So I really don't remember NOT having the internet, for the time it counted. And my first mobile was given to me by my friend when I was in year 8. Of course my parents wouldn't allow it, but I had it anyway. I don't think I could survive without it for very long. I've left my mobile at home many times and I always feel so lost without it.

Now we use a lot of social networking services... most popular out of them with my friends and family is facebook... we don't really bother with anything else... but I did when they first came out... I had friendster, Hi5, Tickle, Bebo, Zepeo (I think that's the name) and myspace. though I don't use any of those now. Facebook I find is the best... it really keeps everyone connected and it's addictive. haha. Though I don't like the idea of "Facestalking".

To sum everything up: having these NCT is convenient. they make communicating to people much easier - although now that society has become so reliant on it, I wonder what would happen if it were all taken away one day....... wow. chaos.

The Future of Communication Technology

Lecture 2 - The History of Computers and the Internet

Charles Babbages, Ada Byron, Lady Lovelace, Alax Turing gave birth to the computer, having - all having contributed to the creation of it. Although computers were only first commercially produced many many years after that by IBM in the 1950s. Of course, these computers are nothing like we have and see now... they were large, expensive machines for military, government, and corporate work. In 1965, Gordom Moore wrote Moore's law: the capacity of microchip's doubles every two years.

Xerox Parc - developed concepts of the mouse, graphical user interface and pull-down menus. And so in 1975 the first PC (personal computer) was released. Though it was dull and Altair didn't have a way of communication with the computers. So Bill Gates dropped out of uni and wrote a language called BASIC for the Altair - for simple uses. He started his own program in his garage, which we all know is "Microsoft".

APPLE: Steve Jobs and Steve Woznak started their own company "Apple". They first started with selling fifty primitive machines with single circuit boards and no cases and no keyboards. Shortly after that, Apple II was launched at the West Coast Computer Fair in 1978. Next two years, Apple grew like no one had expected. Apple well known for their great designs and are very user friendly. They always seem to out-do themselves with better technology and fixing all of the bugs and annoying things that we don't like. This is one of the reasons why I prefer Apple over others... because they actually listen to their consumers.

IBM and Microsoft - I won't go into detail as I didn't really pay much attention in the lecture. OUt of this section I thought what was most interesting was how Steve Jobs quit Apple, but came back with iMac... which we all know is very popular

Operating systems - GNU/Linux (a free operating system), Windows, MacOS and Unix.

Internet, World wide web and Cyberspace came shortly after all of these.

Early internet apps. :

Electronic Email (Email) - I don't know about you but I've had my email since I was 8... yes the exact same one, and I don't know what I'd do without it... it makes communicating to a vast number of people a lot easier!

File Transfer Protocol (FTC) - downloading and uploading files from another computer to your own. Verrrryyy convenient!

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) - being able to chat in real time... with chatrooms etc. Remember "mirC" holy crap. that was the shiiiiz back in the day. It was popular than MSN, yahoo or AIM.

MUDs, MOOs, MUSHes - just to name them.

Recent internet apps. :
Instant Messaging (IM)
Peer-to-Peer (p2p) file sharing
Portable Audio (MP3s, AAC, FLAC etc etc) and podcasting
VoIP and Voice chat (skype)
Facebook/Myspace
Twitterr

That concludes lecture 2. yyaaaaayyy!

This an interesting way of showing an undercover cop and drug situation - it reminds me of several movies. It displays the consequences of the lack of cooperation, communication and knowledge between the levels of authority. Although, I'm not sure if they would have such a gunfight, as shown in this video.

Although this storyline has been cleverly put together to portray a dangerous situation that could possibly happen to person/s in the force - reality is... this situation is probably too far-fetched to be true. Apart from all of that, the video was still quite enjoyable to watch.
